Bought the 2010 edition of Lonely Planet Peru right when it came out just a few weeks before my trip to Peru. Before leaving for Peru I also read Eyewitness Travel Guides and Moon, but this was the only book we have done. We have a typical journey from Lima to Cusco, Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Machu Picchu, and then to Puerto Maldonado and the Amazon basin. The only question that we have met, was not the fault of the Lonely Planet, is that the heavy floods in the spring of 2010, which wiped out the railroads forseveral months from Cusco to Machu Calli Entes (Machu Picchu) has caused a lot of unknowns when dealing with Peru Rail. This edition was also not without inaccuracies. For example, at the time of our visit could not buy tickets at the entrance to Machu Picchu, had to buy the ticket in MP in Aguas Calli Entes (this is only one option recommended by Lonely Planet). You should also note that to have ATMs in Aguas Entes Calli never seem to cash in order to haveenough before.

We tried some "attacks" the Lonely Planet for restaurants and hotels, and everyone agrees with their recommendations. Price guidelines for hotels and food were helpful and fairly accurate. Knowing what is expected to cost by bus or taxi, before they were on board very useful. The book also had some good advice for hiking and I do not see the other books I've read. I will say that the moon is full of good travel book recommendations that wetook. Trip to Peru is not very complicated, but we have a good use of this guide and I would recommend it. Peru is an incredible place to travel and the 2010 travel guide Lonely Planet has helped me a lot.
