Travel Guide Book

I bought this and the map of Tokyo Bilingual book before my trip to Japan.

The key to this book, read through and through, take notes and plan your trip before you actually travel to Tokyo. If you think you can just buy this and go to Tokyo, you have a difficult time.

This book makes it seem even more difficult to navigate than Tokyo really is. I wonder if the writer lost one of those people who always seem to go anywhere with it.

I alsoWe recommend double-checking the rates and location of sites and their opening hours, though, this book walks.

Here's an example: to see the Tsukiji fish market, you have to be there now and sign up before the 4:30 clock. If you follow the instructions in the book, which will be too late and not able to see the fish auction hall. So probably want a looong SUPER breakfast sushi (sushi maybe 10 sets) have on the foreign market, because no other placebe opened at 9 clock (including Hamarikyu garden, the next leg of the trip).

Here's another example: the book talks about the different foods you can buy from the basement of department stores on the cheap. Here the truth is that the price is not cheap, but if Glutte like me, you'd probably buy everything you see there, because everyone seems so delightful and strange. This double or triple the cost of food in restaurants easy.
The book is a big problem:will not tell you where to find the tons of food that you eat only store-bought! You can not eat, drink, or the streets of Tokyo, is not LA or SF dirty pigsty. The answer is, most stores have a plan or an area where you can sit and eat the food - as the roof terrace or roof garden.
If you buy food at the local supermarket or grocery store, to pick up a local park (usually nearby), you can eat and drink with comfort there. The food was in this place arefillings usually cheap and decent enough, you can borrow a microwave oven provided there.

Another miss: (forced if I like it, you always feel at eating places with menus in English rather than the Great), many of the smaller restaurants are very easy to understand. You get to pay into the machine, put your money, press the button on the food that you (still) that you want, then get the ticket and change. Sit down, give the ticket to the propietor andEnjoy your local (non-chain/touristy) food.

The book is an organization very chaotic and not entirely logical. You are required to go through the sections. I relied a lot on the index page, as the search for information that would otherwise be too heavy. This is probably the first time the index page of each book!
It 'also important sections (such as simple Japanese phrases, very easy to learn and a MUST!) The last sections of the book.
Proposal for the writer:Remove or disconnect all the tourist information please smancy hotel and restaurant (there are only a waste of space). Those who care enough to buy this book, you probably do not care about them anyway. Organize walks as a separate district information, duplicate information is better information missing.

I give it a 4 stars because it is a wealth of information. A best feature is the easy and simple, U-Bahn Map & behind the back cover. I could surfme on a lot of places, relying only on that page of the book.
The map of the bilingual book in Tokyo? remained in his pocket for 99% of the time.

I have this book from my previous post over and every story has only served to further enhance their beauty. This is a colorful kaleidoscope of intriguing characters, beliefs, rituals, relationships (both conventional and (especially) the non-conventional), topographies and landscapes.

Every story, makes its own shares from shock or poisoning, as the case may be, for many reasons:

- Reaffirms the delicate mystery of the nun to stay in detention "spiritual" paths thatcall among the overwhelming difficulties and objections can still lead to peace.

- Dancer of the Kannur emphasizes cunning and sometimes humorous one-sidedness of the effects of the enforcement of oppressive social divisions.

- The Daughters of Yellamma encourages us to hope and desires can spark and stay alive in hostile situations.

- The singer of epics humiliates the definition of what it is trained.

- The red fairydescribes the dangers of fundamentalism very strong.

- The Monk's Tale, the lesser-known horror makes the Tibetans and the evil perpetrated pursued anime perversion of the evidence so far sweeter.

- The creator of the idol sounds the alarm bell for co-option and the death of family traditions and generations.

I tend to praise contradict the suggestion that this is an indictment of religious conviction. While the simplicity of innocence, and the struggles of "Nine Lives" is certainly appealing to some extent the book is released to try to distort or embellish, and therefore acts as very honest. Leans to neither romanticize nor follow. For this reason, it fails with flying colors.

I only have the first chapter, "The Nun's Tale", so far advanced, and found it very moving. It was a story that can flood into your consciousness ever so gently, but leaves a strong immediate effect.

The nun unwavering perseverance and strength through their faith and their too-human frailty and sadness that she was banned from the press about the death of her "walking companion" were inspired contrasts beautifully.

ITo recognize that this book is neither admit or collective systems of critical thought, but I could not do without her set of beliefs more clearly, almost violent ideologies by the vast majority of us try practiced.

This is a must for any trip to Japan to have. We recently visited Japan for 12 days and found this guidebook invaluable. We stayed mainly in Tokyo - but definitely get Frommer's Tokyo JAPAN instead, because it includes all the info and Tokyo are a lot of good information on side trips. All proposals for activities and restaurants have been home runs. SPECIAL Andy Shin Himoto restaurant in Ginza in Tokyo. It 'has just been announced, incredibly fresh fish for aincredible value. We sat next to a local food lover who was amazed that we have his favorite "find" knew. 5 stars!

The tours offered each day in Tokyo were also home runs. We spent one night in Hakone, and found the tips to buy the Hakone Free Pass and accommodation (we stayed at the old Fuji-ya Hotel) have again been invaluable. The highlight of our trip was a trip to Kamakura. We appreciate the journey, even having read the story of the Giant Buddha and theKannon-do in Frommer's provided. Most of the most popular resorts in Japan are pamphlets in English, but not all. It 'nice to see the details and history in Frommer's, every experience is more rewarding. Quick Tip of Kamakura - the "Nature Trail" is a full on track that much longer than it looks on the tourist map. It 'been fun, but dress appropriately.

A Frommer's counterpart in Japan, that Tokyo is a must have Street Atlas: ABilingual Guide Tokyo City Atlas: A Bilingual Guide (3rd ed.). The Frommer's cards are limited in scale and scope, but the Atlas of Tokyo has tons of very good, detailed maps - the maps are included underground, JR lines and the main strength - all the street names are listed in the corresponding Japanese characters. Note it says "leader", but Tokyo is only the Atlas maps.

The information on Japanese culture and customs in Frommer was useful, but a bit 'dated. Weyou see things a bit 'in a different way, because we are under (30) are only a big deal, we found that a distinction was made, the amount of Japanese people who spoke English. Many wanted to know English and we found that many people speak English with us. The Frommer's said that they speak English and Japanese, that's hard to entertain us with you - we find this is not the case! We met many friendly people in Japan to talk with us, welcomeWe propose and places to see. In addition, most of the work of the service sector know little 'of English, so it's easy to buy things and ask for assistance on the subway.

A tip from us - most places do not accept credit cards - especially the museums and the metro. We can not wait for this holiday plastic must have a lot of money (yen) on hand. I think I was on my credit card and charge card 4 times use a "service fee in foreign currency," that a share ofTransaction. The best place is the money and get large bills in Japan, broke the mail. All postal ATM locations and postal employees are ready to break large bills.

Darwin Armada: Four Voyages and the battle for the theory of evolution
Readers have a choice too many new books about Charles Darwin and the evolution of this year, the bicentenary of Darwin's birth. Darwin Armada certainly among the best suited for a broad public importance. It consists of five parts. The first four relate to experience research expedition from Darwin, Joseph Hooker, Thomas Huxley and Alfred Wallace. The fifth describes the events surrounding the publication ofGain work of Darwin and Wallace on the development and subsequent support for their theory battles.

The first four chapters serve as a good short biographies of significant parts of the career of these men, especially useful for readers not already versed in the life of one or more of them. McCalman, a distinguished Australian professor, focused on their experience of the South Pacific, but not exclusively. None of the four was a natural conclusion of their September 1on their respective trips, and one is to maintain the values of McCalman shows how he learned while working. He shows how Darwin and Wallace, in particular evolutionary insights developed from their observations of animals and plants in isolated island habitats.

McCalman highlights the differences in social class between these people and shows how their careers, and class interactions concerned with the scientific community. Darwin was a distinguished family, butWallace fit with the trade union movement and was a self-taught. Hooker and Huxley fit in the middle, and both the financial difficulties at times.

I found Part Five "The Armada in the war, 1859-1882", the most rewarding. It shows how the connections between these men and merged, it was important. Hooker and Darwin were friends since the mid-1840s and developed Hooker served as the main forum for discussion of Darwin's ideas on evolution state. Huxley, who first met Darwin in 1853 hadbe over, but he eventually won was the most effective advertising for the views of Darwin.

The campaign intensified in 1858 when Darwin received Wallace's paper "On the tendency of varieties, without limit from the original style, which is closely aligned with their own ideas, the evolution of Darwin, not yet published. Darwin's friends, especially Hooker and the geologist Charles Lyell, were worried that Darwin can not be predicted, and soon arranged for the common reading ofDarwin and Wallace papers at the Linnean Society July 1, 1858. McCalman offers a fine for this procedure. He concludes that Darwin was looking for friends, before Darwin's position against that of Wallace, Wallace, but do not want their paper efforts have probably received a hearing.

McCalman does a good job of summarizing some similarities and differences between the ideas of Darwin and Wallace. He suggests that the mild social class played a role inPreponderance of Darwin recognized as an innovator. Darwin clearly had an advantage: it was free time in 1858-1859 to put together his thoughts in The Origin of Species, while Wallace was still busy trying to earn a living to earn in the Malay Archipelago. Darwin help later, a state pension for Wallace.

Nice memories of Loomis, who now teaches in the French village in Normandy, Louviers kitchen.

She describes her time in cooking school in Paris, her marriage and move to Louviers, where she and her new husband of a former monastery in the city center. I loved life (and retraining) in a small village in France (the trials and joys) and as she began to teach reading cooking.

E 'was great to read, and many recipes.

There have been someDisorders and writing not-so-great power in the book --- which could easily get his attention with better editing.

I loved the first half of this book, in the second half do not have much love to all. I've always been a fan of Steinbeck was never had a reading of his non-fiction. I am happy to read this book, though I was not satisfied with the ending.

In his later years, Steinbeck, with his old poodle Charley, decide on a journey across the country to see how it has changed over the last twenty years or so (he spent much time abroad). He bought a truck and a customerTrailer he calls "Rocinante," filled with supplies and licenses. Above all, enough liquid to fill a bathtub, because you feel if someone meets the road, you can always have a good drink. He spent the first part of his trip to New England to see the pages there and tasting the local cuisine, and then moves on through the Midwest as far away as Seattle. He expressed a special love for Montana and his "old days" feeling.

After reaching California, its original location, he makesa trip to see family and then again after his trip in the direction of Texas. For some reason, Steinbeck a bit 'worried about Texas and almost want to jump, but discovers that he's not (especially since his wife's family lives). He spent a few days on a ranch and then moves to the rest of the south. His journey is not so comfortable with this part of the South in the sixties was full of excitement because of the civil rights movement. It also learns the dangers of choosing the Hitchhiker'sI disagree with your opinions.

Steinbeck encounters many interesting people on the street. The best part about them is that they are all different, but still, I'm just trying to make a better way for themselves. They share a drink and some interesting stories with him and help him not be alone in his travels. However, some of the conversations a bit 'pretentious and I wonder if they were real discussions. Maybe it's just aProduct of my time, but I do not think I've ever heard people like poetry as Steinbeck describes their conversations. His description of his dog is wonderful. But the conversations we had back and forth, sometimes they say the dog was, "FFT" was fun for me to read.

Steinbeck's writing is of course wonderful. It makes a really wonderful job with the description in the first part of the book, and you can really say what a great moment that you are using. HeCharley describes it really is a fun trip for him and his dog in these descriptions. However, he loses this description, and some ignored Charley in the second half of the book. He spends less time for judges and seems in a hurry. I would have liked to see him spend the same amount of time detailing California, Texas and South, as did New England.

Overall though this was an interesting read. It was the kind of book would you pick up and read to pieceswithout worrying about forgetting the details. E 'was simply a way of man and his dog in search of what America, as it is and how people living in it as the whole experience.

Alan Cook is a wonderful writer and has his characters so that readers can contact on page one. His descriptions of the land, the characters and the tension that put you right in the minds of the characters.

Drake and the melody are former employees as a team in a race that is worth a million dollars is coupled to the winners. Both issues are, because they were coupled together and also becausethe race. Most other teams were highly regarded by marathon runners.

The CEO of the company is an individual Giganticorp well connected to the power and is ready to get to do what he wants. However, it is something very suspicious of this individual and Melody Drake and can not understand why it is not ready, he abandoned the race. There are many incidents which are either random or done to stop the teams to win the race. Drakewas injured in a car accident when a truck is on the back of the machine that is driving up other riders, who died in the most unusual.

Since the beginning of "Run in Trouble" by Alan Cook, the reader is fascinated and captured the excitement of the races. Readers will find themselves Sherlock Holmes to know "who did."

Drake and Melody are teamed up to run a race along the California Coast for a prize of a million dollars—in 1969 when a million is worth something. Neither knows the other is in the race before it starts. They once did undercover work together in England, but this information is supposed to be top secret.

This book is a must for visitors to California. I like this book is that it is divided into three categories: highway maps, subway maps and detailed city maps. It covers the entire state of California and the most important destinations in neighboring Nevada as Las Vegas (which contains a detailed map). Detailed maps were great when they found the / points of entry and exit roads of the area. The only drawback is that it has requested more detailed city coverageCards. For example, we spent some time in downtown Santa Monica and it was not a detailed map for this. This loses a star for this, but otherwise are a very valuable book.

I really enjoyed reading this fascinating book. The author Betsy Draine is very demanding and their honesty is refreshing. It 'obvious that they do not, just to make it a little' stories. More often than not, the truth is far more interesting than fiction. Dordogne Castelnaud above the city where the author and her husband buy a vacation home is well described, but you can feel her sadness as she describes the changing weather.

Another great book on the Dordogne IRecommend is "The Most Beautiful Villages of the Dordogne by James Bentley and Hugh Palmer. In reality, the city Castelnaud in this book is also available with some great photos including one of the castle and its surroundings in the city, on the back cover presented. I recommend both! I found this a great, compact, informative guide with basic information (name in English, Japanese name, description, address, hours, etc.). The board of the first quarter of each section is small and localized each listing. If you do not want to read the maps, or have a good sense of direction, can not you take this book for authors, without detailed instructions. It makes them get off the list of Cabinet U-Bahn and marked locations on the map, which was enough to concern me. The maps of the bookwere better than the broader plan to delineate the exact positions Tokyo. Although we do not buy the most complete other leaders, some of the items are unique eating and drinking.

Overall, this book serves as a complement for thick, detailed guide to route planning, but the book is what to wear when you are roaming the streets of Tokyo. Slap on a cover to see fewer tourists, of course, that makes sense if it is one of the residents of Tokyo, no matter what you areOperation.

My girlfriend and I have this book on our trip to Amsterdam and Bruges, and has paid to save on shipping. Speck-kart is warning us about the tram or the easiest way to use public transport to get to the train station, so there is no need to use taxi (again) and pay a fee for adults, and we were grateful to know that , to be so. I already had a good idea of what I wanted to see Amsterdam, but reading the book gave me great ideas for a differentto see unusual things (visiting a private house boat in the canals and the museum of the tube, the depth of the "coffee shop"). Yes, you dweeb like a tourist map, this thing look around everywhere, but the cultural references and additional goodies you'll see that so it's worth. Great example: we came across one day on the red light district on our own, and walked around and check things out. Next, we studied the map and details the author had set for the "Red LightDistrict Walk "and thought, Woo-ee! We have lost the good stuff, we went back and saw great things that would otherwise be overlooked.

And anything else used this card to get around Washington DC a couple of weeks ago. Loved that it had all the metro stations on the front of the card and separate subway map on the back. Small enough to fit in your pocket and sweat rolled so as not to ruin (it was over 100 degrees when I was there!). Easy to use - my 8 years usually have the scroll with him.

I would not recommend this card for the drivers, or cyclists, as it is simply too small and did not play a majorenough space to be useful - eBay Motors need a larger card for that. But for each, with the metro into town and walk to all tourist areas is awesome!

This is an extraordinary story of a journey undertaken by Rory Stewart.

I would recommend this book to readers for two main reasons.

The first is that this is an incredibly detailed depiction of life in secret locations in Afghanistan. The coverage of the events in Afghanistan focuses largely on where accidents occur and what the politicians of working hours. We are able to focus on women's rights, but how realistic is successfully applied in small countries whereThe tradition dates back hundreds of years, and where the priority is how they get their daily diet to support with food? Give the people the right to vote can also be achieved by the Western-style democracy in the country only on laws?

The other aspect of the book is a fascinating journey into the past. The links for the Mughal emperor Babur rule are fascinating. The destruction of many cultural and historical heritage through war is a reminder of what weThe politicians are destroying us, if you start wars for reasons of power, economic resources, or simply different philosophies. Rory Stewart's account also reminds us of how this can be blocked in the world of bureaucratic organizations.

Better maps would have helped the reader to follow Stewart's Travels have been much better. The writing style can be improved. The long notes are important, but broke into the reading of the text. were also extracted from the diaries during Baburvery interesting, which affects the flow of the narrative.

Of course, I brought the old rule that you can never trust a man with two names to watch. I did not know Rick Steves or facilitate its wide range of products, European travel for Americans is possible. I was really just looking for a book to give me some suggestions on what to do / buy in Europe, as well as learn a little 'sneaky people trying to make the sacrifice of American tourists. Not only have I made every piece of information I wanted from this book, but I have a lot more. IRead everything from beginning to end of the day, I cover it, and I learned from England, France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, and much more. I even learned about places I had no intention of visiting, such as Eastern Europe. I learned the traditions, the pitfalls, and even a little 'marijuana laws in Europe.

This book has it all. If you are looking for a book that reaches across Europe, make it. Nice work, Mr. Steves.

Okay, this is clearly the best book I've read thought. It goes through and take each part and say, as he so eloquently of two people is always a Guinness, but you know, all sets of mythic events overload trivial, and that if it is absurd, it is true. If you read this book in a class that would be better, but at least be sure, a complete guide, so you can get some of the allusions. Fishing is not everything. It 's veryShow-offy, it's a bit 'as Joyce has tried to pack every piece of information I ever made in this novel. This can be annoying, but it is also surprising. And I think that was his number in order to describe his world and all that, with the simple story of a man whose heroism is so deeply rooted in it overlooked.

Ulysses Overview

Peter Mayle started the year he and his family moved to Provence from England in the way that you can think fast, people and situations he describes. Similar to "Under the Tuscan Sun", decides to renovate a house and shot his sense of time and the locals are not the same. What I found interesting is how he characterized their commitment to act out every job, from how they waved. You can bet on who I read that he passed, I was wonderingTherefore, I held my hand parallel to the ground and swinging it from side to side.
I laughed out loud at more than one occasion, when his characterization was right on the nose and could easily imagine that the scene played out. It has a facility for a life story, or capture the character of the people he met. I especially like the way they picked up how to talk to business people visiting the comments and his neighbors suspicious.

There are phases in Frenchthe book feel more like you're made there and it was not long before I heard there was a phrase from time to time. The food descriptions were short and there was no Under the Tuscan recipes like this was in order, so I often have to duplicate foreign recipes difficult because of ingredients that were found only in the area. But the author often noticed that the food was more than a passing interest for most people who met with French ... but good food.

This book is ayou can relax and read with great holiday. And 'quick, pleasant and very well written. Can you imagine, almost in a sitting position with the author and the exchange with a glass of good red wine, as I said his first year in Provence.

I really enjoyed this book and used it extensively last September when I visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, each for a couple of days. Logistically very useful for orientation and deep knowledge of the culture and history complete with all the cities, especially Beijing. Visually rich and well presented - provides a preview of the greatness of the places it describes. A bit 'on the large side for a guide, but I managed to fit in your pocket.

I used this book in class for many years. My 02:59, students use a lot. They are able to watch independently on forms of land and water, the other for a project I had to identify in my class.

The book is missing a couple of definitions, but I have mine and added it to the book.
(Eg RIA). The other thing is the index is not complete, but I wrote in the correct pages and topics. Lacks some of theDefinitions. This is a great introduction to the use of an index. While not perfect, is very useful to students and young people are capable of independence ... a huge advantage. I wish more books were this way. It 'hard to find a book at the right level with the desired information. The highlight of the project, students make a 'fictional island. You use the book a "map" to create many different forms of entertainment and ground water. You can get creative with the name ... For example, Barbara's BayAwesome or archipelago.

I find it difficult to teach this part of geography without them! This is an excellent resource.

This is a great book to navigate San Francisco and research centers. The size was very comfortable, but the cards could have been bigger. Then again, not pocket, would it be?

Mr. Johnson's "Hiking North Carolina" is a guide for hikers through a hiker standing in North Carolina High Country. North Carolina has hundreds of miles of hiking and Randy walked through most of them himself. The only risk to write a guide on something you love so much, is the sense of adventure to spoil too much information. On the other hand, I had long enough in hiking guides, which are difficult to find the trailhead would remember, much less give a goodDetails of the route and what you meet. There is a subtle balance between a guide that tells too much, like the Appalachian Trail passes, and a guide that says too little, as I see in some magazines. I believe that Mr. Johnson guide to a good balance between the two strikes, you say what you know and need the same sense of adventure experience. And 'the adventure that draws us went into the woods. I recommend this guide to all those whoexcursions of the state. Its maps are very detailed and well drawn, and his descriptions are so much to go where you want to spoil the fun, without having to look. It 's a great job and is also useful in the library open.

Hmmm, there was not much sex or cannibals in this book, but despite that, it was hilarious. Troost, books, and was only lukewarm about this, however, was aa very good book.

Troost and his girlfriend Sylvia to decide that they need to get away from everything after his graduation. They apply for jobs in everything and finally arrive in a small island in the Pacific, Tarawa, which is a part of the Republic of Kiribati. Here it isin essence, a "home" can be found here and spend the day surfing, cleaning, worrying about clean water and try to find some kind of food. More worrying is that with the wealth of the people and not a reliable waste management, the environment is highly toxic and even eating the local fish is dangerous. There is certainly an adventure to survive on the island.

Troost and his girlfriend of two years on this island, where little by little accustomed toThe living conditions (although not the Macarena, which has played continuously by all). Although some are disappointed with the cannibalism and presented an interesting sex life on the island. But it is by the people, but the wild dogs that roam the area. They manage to survive their time, but they can be radically changed and the last chapter deals with how to take his life in America and their attempts to buy clothing store offers food in a place seeking the maximumdecisions that require money and re-regulation for most things.

Troost is a very funny writer. While his work is not very polished, has a great flow, and has injected a huge dose of humor in it. By his description, it is easy, the island where he lives with his words and see. You can use the beaches, the trees, the blinding hot sun. But to do this in the same way you can see the dirt, mangy animals and other elements of the disaster that the island is more dangerousPlace to live. Troost is a great narrator and his voice is good to tell the story. My only complaint would be that he is very tearful. Yes, he told all that funny, but overall there is a sense of self-pity in the book. Its almost as if something is not fantastic and it was a bad thing for everyone.

It has a decent job of describing the people of the island. They are in their thoughts, but all love stories varied eating wellFood and beer. On an 'island there is not much to sing and dance like a music and just doing a great hobby here. They also "local legends" of your love and Troost tell stories about people and space. He, in turn, gives us a review of some of these stories.

This book was definitely one of the best I've read by him. I'll probably continue to read his books and I'm looking forward to some of the other places he visited and wrote about.
